Emmy is Finished

My first finish of 2017….Emmy is done!

This is a Bee quilt from 2013…I know, I know! Pathetic to say the least but it is just one of many really old quilts I have hanging around my sewing room. I am working on it, I swear!

This bee was a Modern Stitching Bee where we were to pick a block (or 2) from the book Modern Blocks by Susanne Woods. At the time there were several bees of this kind around Instagram and it was great fun to see different quilts and to get to stitch the different blocks from the book.

I chose the Checkers block which is an embroidery block and asked them to have it represent them in some way; and the Diamond Ripples block which is a pieced block which you can see in the alternating blocks above.

Below is a collage of the different people who contributed to my quilt. I have added the Instagram names to each in case you want to see more of their handiwork:

There are so many great stories in this quilt! I can’t even start telling you about them all – I can tell you this….I have made some great friends along the way. This quilt brings big smiles to my face. I will probably hang it on my wall so that I can share many of these stories with my kids & grands. Thanks ladies!!!

When it came time to quilt the gorgeous flimsy, I was at a loss and then the ever-talented Nicky gave me this idea. I quilted it in all the white areas except where there is embroidery. I just did a haphazard stipple of sorts – meaning sometimes there are loops, sometimes there are stipples, Love the way it has made the colors pop. Here’s a close up:

Since this quit was so fun and had the potential to hold a rich history I decided to keep the back simple with a little fun (the great sneaker fabric that I love) and a large detailed label that I hand wrote. I included all the Instagram usernames on the label but you can’t see them in this pic:

That small “arrow looking blue side-ways square” above the shoe block is the only signature block I received that year and its from Susan aka @canadianabroad. Oh and just look at that quilting!!

  3. You must be so happy to have this quilt finished because it’s gorgeous!! I like how the embroidered squares reflect the makers in some way. It’s fun to find out that I actually know a couple of the ladies who contributed to this quilt aswell!
